Pope Francis clarified his stance on same-sex couple blessings

Does anyone object using File:Franciscus, 2023.jpg? The colors are better, the image is more recent... the only downside is probably the angle. RodRabelo7 (talk) 23:18, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the downside is exactly that, the angle — I don't think a more recent photo justifies a much worse picture here, the current photo is fine. Flemmish Nietzsche (talk) 23:23, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Too many articles about the same person

[edit]

Wikipedia has so many articles about Pope Francis! I think they could be merged on the principal article. For instance, there is a long article named "Pope Francis and LGBT topics". It could be included in the principal article. 2804:D84:2280:2400:B045:A59D:D997:FF0D (talk) 00:24, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It is standard practice to have multiple articles on people like Pope Francis. Extremely notable and influential people sometimes require multiple articles to have full encyclopedic coverage. A slightly older example of this is the article Joseph Priestley and Dissent. ~ Pbritti (talk) 04:21, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Controversies section

[edit]

Just starting a thread here for discussion based on the notice posted on the article itself (not posted by me). However, I can definitely see why it is posted. The length and detail of the controversies section seems to give undue weight to criticism of a Pope who has not been particularly controversial, except in certain circles. HappyWanderer15 (talk) 15:07, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For what it’s worth, I think the removal of the "Controversies" section title by @Neutrality was the right choice. StarkReport (talk) 14:27, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why is there no critical section in the article in relation to the theology, and other teachings, of Pope Francis?

[edit]

Why is there no critical section in the article in relation to the theology, and other teachings, of Pope Francis - he is certainly not without critics in the Roman Catholic Church, these critics may be wrong - but to ignore them is not correct for what is supposed to be a reference article. Presently the article reads like a Public Relations handout - even stressing the "humility" of the subject of the article. This sort of praise is very much a matter of opinion. 2A02:C7C:E1BA:CE00:DDF1:C189:C89A:5C03 (talk) 11:32, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think editors are often just busy! You should write it! Middle Mac CJM (talk) 14:57, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Remember also that per Wikipedia:Criticism "criticism" and "controversies" or the like are not favored headings. These sorts of things are better handled according to subject matter not point of view -- in other words a section of Francis' view of theology would also describe notable critiques. Remove redundant text under International Diplomatic Role -> Russia and Ukraine. The article contains the following: Later, he described Ukraine as "martyred" and prayed for the victims of Russian aggression, but still did not directly criticize Putin or the Russian government.[493] but still avoided direct criticism of Putin or the Russian government.[494]

The second sentence is a restatement of the first and is unnecessary, one can just keep the first sentence and have two citations. SunGodAteMyChildren (talk) 15:35, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
