Category:Restoration Movement
The Restoration Movement is a Christian movement that began on the American frontier during the Second Great Awakening (1790–1870) of the early 19th century. The movement sought to restore the church and "the unification of all Christians in a single body patterned after the church of the New Testament." The movement has since divided into three major subgroups: the Churches of Christ, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and the Christian churches and churches of Christ.
Subcategories contain categories for each of the major divisions of the movement and subjects should be categorized as follows based on their timespan and affiliations:
- For all subjects prior to 1906, they should be categorized in a "Restoration Movement" category.
- For all subjects after 1906, they should be categorized by their affiliation with a division. Subjects should be dual categorized if encompassing before and after 1906.
- While the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Christian churches and churches of Christ did not formally divide until 1968, the divisions between the two were apparent from the early 20th century and articles should be categorized based on those affiliations. The churches, schools, institutions, and people which supported the International Convention of the Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) were termed "cooperatives" and would eventually become the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Those which did not support the International Convention were termed as "noncooperatives" and became the Christian churches and churches of Christ, also known as independents, and would create the North American Christian Convention as a paired-down alternative to the International Convention.
- Note that the Churches of Christ are not the same as the Christian churches and churches of Christ
