'Rock' /Synth 'Rock'/Alternative 'Rock' / Industrial 'Rock'

[edit]

Why the genre 'Rock' is incorrect:

Daniel Miller Quote (p 333, in the book ‘Stripped’ By Jonathan Miller): “The thing is, they’re not a rock band... because it’s not pure [rock ‘n roll]. There’s a horrible kind of authenticity about rock music, and they’re definitely not authentic in that sense” [1]Kalied04 (talk) 14:57, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Alan Wilder himself mentioned on his Recoil website [2], Q&A Section, Songs of Faith and Devotion ... "Well, SOFAD is far from a rock album but that's another issue"

1,500.000 sales in us?

[edit]

just a few weeks back wiki said it sold 900.000+ so where as these 600.000 sales come from? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.110.118.132 (talk) 22:06, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

album was leaked before release?

[edit]

I'm reading Appetite for Self-Destruction, and the book asserts that this album was leaked to the internet ahead of release. Sounds fishy since mp3 wasn't available and hard drives were small back then; but it still seems like an interesting point to add to the article, if it can be confirmed. Will take a look at this Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 10:03, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Article needs some discussion of the tracks and their writing.
  • One new approach to recording was performance. - sentence is meaningless - remove and let facts speak for themselves
  • though the album used a great deal of live recorded audio than previous Depeche Mode releases - which album we talking about? Also, "than" needs a comparative adjective
  • link "distortion"
  • link "outro"
  • Upon returning, they found it difficult to re-integrate as a unit, - ummm, how about "difficult to work/collaborate together...?
  • The concept of the band living and working together in the same house meant that they rarely got breaks from each other - wasn't a concept it was reality. I'd say "Living and working together in the same house meant that the band members rarely got breaks from each other"
  • The band also began to jam together, something which they had not previously done, only for fun. - huh? either they hadn't or they had..only for fun?
  • The lack of success of coming up with musical ideas from such jams led to frustration that the band were not making any progress - remove everything after "frustration"
  • The lack of progress increasingly frustrated recording. --> "The lack of progress increasingly frustrated everyone/the band."

1. Well written?:

Prose quality: - tweaks pending as above
Manual of Style compliance:

2. Factually accurate and verifiable?:

References to sources: - need to look at these
Citations to reliable sources, where required:
No original research:

3. Broad in coverage?:

Major aspects: - as it stands, lacks any discussion on the songs themselves. Needs a summary at least.
Focused:

4. Reflects a neutral point of view?:

Fair representation without bias:

5. Reasonably stable?

No edit wars, etc. (Vandalism does not count against GA):

6. Illustrated by images, when possible and appropriate?:

Images are copyright tagged, and non-free images have fair use rationales:
Images are provided where possible and appropriate, with suitable captions: - single fair use image.

Ok, I am failing this as no action taken for a month. It doesn't need that much but is lacking in some material. Hopefully this review will be helpful for a future reader. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 21:34, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

All adjustments made that have been suggested. The only thing missing is a song summary, largely because information on all tracks individually is surprisingly difficult to come by. (82.27.188.98 (talk) 20:58, 23 October 2015 (UTC))[reply]
